The majority of portable vaporizers do not produce much smoke. That is why you will not see very thick clouds. It is normal. The vaporizer can deliver a nice flavor even without much smoke. You can increase amount of vapor if your vaporizer has temperature settings. The higher temperature you adjust the more vapor you can get.

Why are there any ashes in the heating chamber?

There should not be any ashes in your vaporizer. All modern vaporizers do not burn, but heat the herbs. When you complete the vaporization and begin to clean the unit, you will see that the herbs slightly changed the color. So only the dried up herbs stay in the heating chamber when the vaporization process is over.
